I will tell you a little about Algebra . It is a solution for equations and it work with variables.

EX:
X+2=7 (x): variable ( x+2=7) : Equation
X+2-2=7-2
X=5 ( X+2-2=7-2
X=5 ) : Solution

That is a simple Equation , and there are a lot of kind of Equation.
